Tummy time

He usually doesn't mind tummy time that much, but this time he was MAD!! He stretched out his legs so far, he held up his whole body! And than he scooted about a foot and a half! It was amazing. I had a dream last night that he did that again, but stood all the way up and started walking ... we were all petrified. Let's not do that, Rocky.
Cousin Brealynn (7 months) and little Rocky (5 weeks)!
His color is definetely dark brown ...

Pictures!

One of Pa
m's friends from work came over and took these. They turned out really good, thank you so much!! (He is SUCH a daddy's boy!)

Peeing incident ...

Just have to share one little thing that happened this morning ...

I was changing Rocky's diaper, putting the new one under him and he peed! ... IN HIS FACE!!!! Haha It was hilarious. Too bad I was the only one up, so I was the only one who saw it .. and the only one laughing hysterically.

May 28, 2010

Well, no real big news this week. Life is just goin on! (which is QUITE ok with me) ;) The home health nurse came out yesterday and he now weighs 7 lbs. 7 oz.! He's a growin' boy! He also is eating about 4 oz. (about 120 ml.) every 4 hours. He's eating almost double what he's expected to. We decided to "up" his feedings because at 80 ml., he would still be looking for something to suck on and he was just not that pleasant to be around. :) He now seems quite content after eating a whole 4 oz.!

He has been keeping me up at nights though. For some reason, he thinks he's supposed to sleep during the day and stay up all night. He just wants some valuable mommy-son time, I guess! I have enjoyed the past 2 Fridays though ... My amazing sister Eliza has stayed over night and fed him at 4 for me! It's been awesome.

My friend, Aubrey, threw me a baby shower last weekend, which turned out to be a huge success! (THANK YOU Aubrey .. and Lori) It was fun to see everyone again.

Rocky is starting to be a little more active and fun to play with. He is almost to where he can hold up his head by himself! We keep trying and trying to get him to smile (a REAL one-not his drunk, drousy ones) but he hasn't popped one out yet. His big beautiful eyes keep us entertained though, that's for sure! He tells us everything through those two little things. We can't wait until he can smile and giggle :)

Quick update with Kyle -
He is taking a break from school for the summer. He actually was signed up for Math 1050 but a few days into the class, the school contacted him and told him that he can't get Financial Aid unless he goes full time. So his options were to either take the math class and have to pay for it, or go full time in order to get aid. Here's the catch: If he didn't take Math 1050 this semester, he would have to take 1010 AND 1050 over again, because his prerequisite would expire. So that adds another year of school on. It was a hard decision, but i think it will be a nice break for him before the paramedic program starts in August. He also just graduated with his associates! Good job hunny buns :) Only 2 more years and than Bachelors!

We keep getting these random bills in the mail for Rocky and I. It is amazing to me how people can charge so much for services!! Especially people without insurance ... they would be paying off hospital bills for the rest of their lives! Rockys "Special Nursery" stay was around $50,000. Rediculous. Luckily, we FINALLY got approved for medicaid and so we are hoping they will cover most of what we would have to pay out of pocket.

I did 150 crunches the other day! Woo Woo!! :) Hopefully I can finally start getting back into shape! Kyle and I have been trying to eat healthier, and we are going to start running together every morning. (we'll see how long this lasts...) I just wish the weather would start shapin up! Kyle has been dying to go Rock Climbing. And I've been dying to go to the canyon for bbqs, walks, fishing, hiking, camping, etc.
If you look close enough, you can see his little smile!

Hahaa - gotta love his eyes!!

Daddy-son marks! They both have simian creases on thier right hands. My special boys! ;)

Quick update

The benefit concert has been CANCELLED. If the weather would cooperate, it would be a different story ...!! We will probably try it again around August. Thank you everyone who was planning on coming!

We went to Primary Childrens today and met Dr. Morales. He is a very nice man, we were impressed. His first surgery will be on June 24th, and his second on August 30th. His first surgery, they will be putting a prosthesis palate in (which we have scheduled at the orthodontist at Primary's for the 21st) and hooking it to his "growth" on his nose. We will than go in weekly to get it tightened. So it's basically the same concept as braces. This will help it to gradually get in the right spot for them to fix, with his second surgery.

Told you it would be quick ;) Thank you everyone for your prayers. Love you all

Haha

Yesterday, we were all sitting in the living room as Kyle was explaining to us that he was such a good dad because he helped out so much, where most dads completely ignore newborns. He was interrupted by Rocky "doing his business" and boy, was it loud. It was also pretty warm, according to Kyle ...
Yes dear, Rocky is so lucky to have such a great dad :)

Circumcision

Besides his adorable position, notice his little mohawk!
Sleepin' buddies
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rocky went in for his Circumcision last week. I thought I would be all tough and stay and hold his hand, but I could bearly stand it when I held him while the nurse pricked his heel :( Kyle stayed with him for support, but I could hear him clear out in the waiting room! Poor little guy, good thing he is such a trooper. The doctor came to get me and as he was walking me to the room, he was saying that Rocky had a little bit harder of a time than most other babies do. Heartbreaking!! I think I had a little bit harder of time than most MOMS! How am I going to make it through all of his "real" surgeries ...

We finally got him home and to calm down. We noticed, however that his breathing wasn't normal. It was almost like he was gasping for air at times. Kyle had me call the nurse and ask her about it - she said to just watch it, and if it gets worse to take him in. It was still going on about an hour later, and so we decided to call my dad (Respiratory Therapist). He asked us to check some things, Kyle's mom checked his lungs through a stethoscope, we checked his color, etc. Everything else seemed fine and he, too, told us just to watch it and to take him in if we feel like he needed to be treated.

At the doc's, they weighed and measured him again. He was 6 lbs. 6 oz. and 20 1/4 in. long!! He has been gaining an oz. or more a day, which is Awesome! We have definetely been able to tell, too - He's finally getting some meat on his little limbs. We are still fortifying his milk, and feeding him every 3 hours, except throughout the night, every 4 hrs.

Back to the breating issue... everything turned out to be fine. He was all back to normal by morning. We are thinking it was just because of how hard he was crying and how freaked out he was. OR because of the pain he felt every time he moved ...

Thursday, May 13, 2010

The home health nurse came yesterday. The last time she came was last Wednesday, I believe and he weighed 5 lbs 16 oz. He now weighs 6 lbs 6 oz!!! AND he has still managed to keep his feeding tube out. What a champ! So proud.

A few friends are holding a "benefit concert" for Rocky. It is next Saturday, May 22nd at 5:00. It will be at the "Jensen Arena" (1352 N 50 W Pleasant Grove, UT 84062). Admission will be free, but there will be lots of goodies to tempt you, for donations! ;)

I know there is something else I wanted to put on here .... when it comes to me, i'm sure I'll be right back on to post it :)

His Cutie patutie face (no strings, tubes, or cords attatched!) --with dumbo ears, thanks to mom :)

We have moved back to "home" home now. It is definetely nice to know that we are here permanently -- and can actually start putting things away and settling in.

Friday was an interesting day ... and not very fun. I woke up at 8:00 to feed Rocky and I felt just awful. Pumping was even worse than it usually is, I was lightheaded, uncomfortably cold, and had a major headache. After about an hour, he finally finished eating and I basically ran downstairs and fell into bed. I left my jacket on, changed into sweats and some extra socks, wrapped up in a couple blankets, and turned up the space heater. About 30 minutes later, Kyle woke up to me shivering and offered me his blanket as well. As he kissed my cheek, he ran upstairs to grab a thermometer. My temperature was at 101.6. While talking to him and my mom, we decided to call the doctor. I had Mastitis. Kyle was in for a long day. And he did very good at it :) He took me home and tucked me in bed, got me some water and lortab, and ran to Walgreens to get my prescription. Needless to say ... I got lots of sleep and drank lots of water, and by the end of the day, I was feeling back to par. Although, I can feel it coming back today.

Rocky had a spitting up episode that night, as well. He spit up his tube and everything. We decided that, since he had been eating so well, we wouldn't bother putting another tube in. He is still doing awesome and has been able to keep his tube out :)

While Kyle was out picking up my prescription and grabbing a few things, there were 3 or 4 families that stopped him and said they had just seen pictures of Rocky and were looking at the blog. He is pretty famous! Thank you to everyone who has passed this blog around. It really has made a difference!

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Well, little Rocky is making some progress! He went in to see Dr. Edwards yesterday. He is now 5 lbs. 14 oz. (not even 2 weeks old yet, and he's gained 4 oz!) And he is 19.5 inches long! He had his whole bottle yesterday morning (50 ml) and later that night, we were visiting the grandparents and he very quietely pulled his tube out. Of course, we didn't think to pack a tube with us So we had to feed him his whole bottle again - and he did it!! He is doing awesome.

He IS getting pretty sore on the inside of his mouth on his septum. Probably because of the nipple rubbing up against it, and it's not meant to be bugged too much. We asked the doc yesterday if there's anything we can get to treat it, but it just has to callous over time. We do have some lidocaine we put on it though to numb it up a little bit before we feed him.

We are still at the Evans'. We're hearing bribes left and right, more and more every day convincing us to just move in! We were talking about rent and joking that we'd probably have to pay Tyson and Bryson, rather than my parents because we're staying in their room. :)

First Bath!

He LOVED this. He flinched a little when he first hit the water, but once he got used to it, he realized it was pretty relaxing. He even stayed asleep for the first little bit -- until he had an "accident" and we had to change the water. That, he didn't like too much. I think his dad might have even enjoyed it more than him ;)

Uncle Chad

We finally got a picture of the Dr. who delivered him :) (Dr. Parker -- his 7,087th baby delivered)

Just being adorable, chillin in his bed
